Entenbrunnen

The Entenbrunnen is a small decorative fountain made of bronze and shell limestone, installed in the pedestrian area of Hardenbergstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg around 1911. It was created by August Gaul, one of Imperial Germany's most celebrated animal sculptors, whose work is characterized by naturalistic, lively portrayals of fauna — here rendered as ducks, true to the fountain's name. Listed as a Berlin Kulturdenkmal, the piece is easy to pass without noticing, but rewards a closer look for the quality of its bronze casting and its place in Wilhelmine-era urban ornamentation.
