ギョレメ国立公園

Göreme National Park in the heart of Cappadocia is a landscape of soft tuff rock sculpted by millions of years of volcanic eruption and wind erosion into the iconic fairy chimneys that define the region's silhouette. From the 4th century onward, early Christians carved churches, monasteries and entire communities directly into the rock — dozens of cave churches still shelter vivid Byzantine frescoes from the 10th and 11th centuries. The park, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 alongside the rock sites of Cappadocia, draws visitors for multi-day hiking through named valleys such as the Rose Valley and Love Valley, horseback riding between canyon walls, and exploration of the open-air museum near Göreme village. At dawn, clusters of hot-air balloons drifting above the chimneys have become one of the region's most distinctive spectacles.
