PIGEON VALLEY start
Also known as: Pigeon Valley Trailhead East
Pigeon Valley starts at the western edge of Göreme and winds through Cappadocia's signature tuff-rock landscape toward the hilltop town of Uçhisar, covering roughly 3.5 kilometres on foot. The valley takes its name from the hundreds of dovecotes carved into the soft volcanic cliffs since Byzantine times — pigeons were kept for their droppings, which fertilized the region's vineyards, and white birds still inhabit many of the niches today. The trail passes through narrow rock corridors and open canyon sections, with clear sightlines to fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, and the distant Uçhisar castle. The trailhead sits directly in Göreme's town center, making it one of the most accessible walks in the region.
