Goreme to Pigeon Valley Walk

The Pigeon Valley walk links Göreme to the rock-top fortress village of Uçhisar across a roughly 13 km loop through Cappadocia's signature tuff-stone landscape. The valley takes its name from the thousands of pigeon-houses carved into soft volcanic rock since Byzantine times — the collected droppings fertilised the region's vineyards for centuries. The trail is mostly comfortable underfoot with a few scrambling sections, though missing signage in places rewards those with a taste for light navigation. Sweeping valley views, Byzantine rock-cut churches tucked into cliff faces, and the dramatic silhouette of Uçhisar Castle mark the highlights. Visitors should note a pack of stray dogs that has settled at a viewpoint about 15 minutes from the Göreme trailhead on the right-hand path.
