Jewish Museum

The Jewish Museum Berlin in Kreuzberg is one of the largest Jewish museums in Europe, covering two millennia of German-Jewish history. Daniel Libeskind's zinc-clad zigzag building, opened in September 2001, is sliced by narrow blade-like windows; inside, three "axes" and several "voids" of bare concrete cut through the structure as built absence. The cold, unheated Holocaust Tower and Menashe Kadishman's Shalechet installation, with 10,000 steel-cut faces visitors walk across, are unforgettable. The permanent exhibition in the neighbouring 1735 Kollegienhaus traces Jewish life in Germany from Ashkenaz to the present. The Eric F. Ross building opposite houses the Anne Frank children's centre.
