Neoclassical square at the heart of Munich's museum and art district

Königsplatz in Munich's Maxvorstadt district is a 19th-century neoclassical ensemble and one of the defining works of Ludwig I's vision for an Athens on the Isar. The Propylaen gate, Glyptothek, and Staatliche Antikensammlungen frame the spacious square, forming the cultural heart of Munich's art district. Today Königsplatz also serves as a venue for major concerts and cultural events — and a quiet refuge in the middle of the city.
