LOVE

The LOVE monument on Valletta's waterfront is a large letter sculpture with an upside-down "O" — a format familiar from pop-art installations worldwide. Its main draw is as a photo opportunity, and visitors attach padlocks to the nearby railings in the style popularized by romantic landmarks elsewhere in Europe. The sculpture itself is modest, but the surrounding bay promenade — lined with restaurants, eateries, and an ice cream shop — makes it a pleasant stop, especially in the evening when the monument is lit up and the waterfront comes alive.
