Neuerburg

Burg Neuerburg stands on a rocky promontory above the small town of the same name in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm, Rhineland-Palatinate, with records of the fortress dating back to 892 AD. Throughout the Middle Ages it served as a border stronghold between the Electorate of Trier and the Duchy of Luxembourg, changing hands repeatedly before sustaining damage during the Thirty Years' War. After partial restoration, the castle found an unusual second life as a youth castle and youth hostel, allowing visitors to spend the night within its medieval walls. The hilltop position provides broad views over the forested Eifel, and the surrounding trail network connects to the valley of the Enz river.
