Nature ReserveSpecies ConservationNatural History+3
The Nieder Heide am Egelsberg nature reserve covers around 4.6 hectares of wet birch-oak woodland on the southwestern edge of Moers, directly adjoining the larger Egelsberg reserve across the Krefeld boundary. Protected since 1989, the two reserves together form almost the entirety of FFH site DE-4605-302 Egelsberg, integrating the area into the European Natura 2000 conservation network. The moist woodland supports specialist flora and fauna that have grown rare across the densely settled Lower Rhine region. Visitors can explore quiet forest paths through a near-natural habitat that feels remarkably secluded given its urban surroundings.
