Munich Residenz

The Munich Residenz, former urban palace of the Wittelsbach dynasty, is the largest inner-city palace complex in Germany, comprising over 130 rooms built across successive phases between the 14th and 19th centuries. Its interiors layer Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles — each era still legible in the decoration of individual rooms. Heavily damaged in World War II, the palace was painstakingly reconstructed over decades; the treasury houses one of Europe's premier collections of dynastic jewellery, including the Bavarian royal crown of 1806. The Residenzmuseum opens daily, leading visitors through ceremonial halls, imperial apartments, and the Antiquarium — Germany's oldest surviving Renaissance hall north of the Alps.
