Schleuse Hořín

The Hořín lock is a canal structure at the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers near Mělník, built around 1905 as part of Bohemia's inland waterway network. Constructed during the late Habsburg era of large-scale infrastructure investment, it is today listed as part of a Czech cultural monument. Visitors can observe the historic lock chambers in operation, watching river barges transit the Elbe–Vltava corridor — a modest but technically interesting stop for those drawn to turn-of-the-century hydraulic engineering.
