Winston Churchill

Also known as: Bust of Winston Churchill

This bronze memorial, erected in 1992, commemorates Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister who led the Allies through World War II. In Prague, Churchill carries a layered historical meaning: celebrated as an icon of anti-fascist resistance, he is simultaneously associated with the 1938 Munich Agreement that surrendered the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany without Czech consent. The memorial reflects post-1989 Czechoslovakia's effort to reckon with that ambivalent legacy in a newly democratic context.
