Built in 1939, the all-seat stadium currently holds 11,700 spectators — down from roughly 19,000 before 1998 when full seating was installed for Panionios' participation in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. The stadium's attendance record of 20,950 dates from a 1974 derby against Panathinaikos. Eligible to host UEFA Europa League matches, it remains a classic example of pre-war Greek stadium design with a combined athletics facility.
