Alser Straße

Alser Straße is an above-ground stop on Vienna's U6 line in the 9th district of Alsergrund, running along the Hernalser Gürtel on a listed elevated rail structure. The viaduct is part of the Stadtbahn network designed by Otto Wagner between 1894 and 1901 — the sinuous ironwork and Jugendstil detailing are still largely intact and protected as a monument. The station's name traces back to the Als, a Wienerwald stream that was bricked over in the 19th century as part of the city's sanitation overhaul and now flows invisibly beneath the boulevard. The station is fully wheelchair accessible and operated by Wiener Linien.
