The Basilica of Marija Bambina in Xagħra, Gozo, carries its feast day with double meaning: 8 September, the Nativity of Mary, is also the day in 1565 on which the Great Siege of Malta ended — hence the church's alternative dedication as "Our Lady of Victories". The present baroque building was constructed between 1815 and 1855 on the foundations of a 17th-century church; the prominent dome was added in 1892. It was elevated to a Basilica Minor in 1967.
