Saint George's Basilica

St George's Basilica stands at the heart of Victoria, the capital of Gozo, surrounded by a maze of old narrow streets. Built between 1672 and 1678, it was heavily damaged by a major earthquake in 1693 and was not consecrated until 1755 — a delay inscribed into its history. The facade received its present appearance in 1818. As a collegiate church since 1900 and Basilica Minor since 1967, San Ġorġ is the central church of the island of Gozo.
