Bälmeten is a 2,415-metre summit in the Glarner Alps and the highest point of the municipality of Schattdorf in the canton of Uri. Its ridge forms the official boundary between Schattdorf and Erstfeld, making it one of the few alpine peaks where a municipal border runs precisely along the crest. The summit sits within the chain Wängihorn–Burg–Hoch Fulen–Bälmeten–Schwarz Grat, which wraps around Schattdorf like two stage wings set at a right angle. The ascent requires solid mountain experience and appropriate gear, but rewards with an open panorama over the Reuss valley and the surrounding three-thousand-metre peaks of central Switzerland.
