Bifertenstock

The Bifertenstock is a 3,421-metre summit in the Glarner Alps of central Switzerland, a demanding high-alpine objective above the Uri and Glarus border. Its first ascent on 7 September 1863 was led by Abraham Roth — journalist and co-founder of the Swiss Alpine Club — alongside mountain guide Heinrich Elmer, placing the peak in the early annals of organised Swiss alpinism. The route involves glacier travel and rocky scrambling sections, making it suitable for experienced mountaineers rather than casual hikers. From the summit, the panorama sweeps across the Glarner and Uri Alps, extending to the Gotthard massif on clear days.
