Almaty-2 railway station

Almaty-2 is one of the city's two main intercity railway stations, constructed in 1939 during the late Stalinist period. Like many station buildings of that era, it was designed as a representational state structure intended to project Soviet modernity and institutional authority. Today it is operated by the national rail company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and serves as a departure point for routes across the Kazakh steppe and Central Asia.
