Kılıçarslan Gazi Türbesi

The Kılıçarslan Gazi Türbesi is the tomb of Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Rükneddin Kılıçarslan IV, who was garroted in Ürgüp in 1266 on the orders of his Mongol overlords — a fate that encapsulates the decline of Seljuk sovereignty under Mongol dominance. The domed türbe, built in the characteristic Seljuk funerary style, sits on a low hill above Ürgüp and is reached by a short, steep path. Visitors still toss coins into the tomb as a votive offering, a custom reflecting centuries of local veneration. The hilltop position offers an unobstructed view across the rooftops of Ürgüp and the surrounding Cappadocian tuff-stone landscape.
