Krumme Lanke

The Krumme Lanke is an elongated channel lake about one kilometre long in southwest Berlin on the edge of the Grunewald, in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough. It formed at the end of the Weichselian glaciation as a meltwater channel and is connected to the Havel via the nearby Schlachtensee, although it has no open inflow or outflow of its own. The water is nutrient-poor, clear, and a popular summer swimming spot for Berliners, even though bathing is not officially permitted along its full shoreline. The circular path runs about four kilometres almost entirely through pine forest, so the ground is soft underfoot and dog encounters are frequent. The U-Bahn terminus Krumme Lanke is only a few minutes' walk away.
