The Kinský Palace on Prague's Old Town Square is one of the finest Baroque-Rococo townhouses in the city, today housing the National Gallery's collection of graphic art and drawings. Designed in the 18th century by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, the building incorporates structural layers from earlier Gothic and Renaissance phases. Its balcony carries particular historical weight: in February 1948, Communist leader Klement Gottwald addressed the crowds from it to announce the party's seizure of power — an event Czechs call Vítězný únor, Victorious February. Visitors can explore rotating exhibitions of prints and drawings inside while the elaborately articulated facade, one of the most photographed on the square, rewards close inspection.
