Saint Gertrude Church

Also known as: St. Gertrud

Saint Gertrude's parish church in the Afden district of Herzogenrath traces its origins to a first written mention in 1116, with the current baroque structure completed in 1686. The church is dedicated to Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, one of the most venerated saints of the early medieval Rhineland. Today the parish stands out for its range of traditional Catholic devotions: daily Eucharist, confessions, and Eucharistic Adoration are complemented by the Tridentine Mass celebrated twice a week, drawing worshippers from a wide radius. The building is wheelchair accessible and open for quiet prayer throughout the day.
