Also known as: St. Mariä Himmelfahrt
The parish church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt in Herzogenrath is a neobaroque basilica built between 1913 and 1915 to designs by district architect Heinrich van Kann. Its twin-towered facade stands prominently in the cityscape and is clearly visible from the hilltop Herzogenrath Castle above. The church is notable for its active traditional liturgical life — Tridentine Masses in the extraordinary rite are held regularly, accompanied by Gregorian chant led by a female cantor, drawing visitors from across the region. In the evenings, exterior floodlighting turns the facade into a quiet focal point of the town center.
