Wurm

The Wurm is a small river of roughly 56 kilometers originating near Aachen and flowing northwest through the Wurm valley into the Netherlands, where it joins the Rur. The valley has been a corridor for human settlement since Roman times, when the area formed part of the frontier zone, and archaeological finds along its banks trace occupation across multiple eras. Today the river is lined with a signposted cycling and walking route that passes through floodplain meadows, wooded stretches, and quiet villages. Several sections have been renaturalized in recent years, making it a calm escape from the city center.
