Old Botanical Garden Munich

Munich

Former 19th-century botanical garden, now a green city park in the heart of Munich.

The Old Botanical Garden sits in the heart of Munich near Lenbachplatz in the Maxvorstadt district. Founded in 1812 under King Maximilian I as a scientific collection of medicinal plants, the site served as a research garden for over a century. When the botanical garden relocated to Nymphenburg in 1914, the grounds were transformed into a public park. Today the roughly 3.5-hectare green space — dotted with ancient trees, sculptures, and fountains — offers a tranquil escape from the surrounding urban bustle, popular with locals and visitors alike who seek a quiet moment between museums and shopping streets.
