Benediktenwand

The Benediktenwand is an 1,800-metre mountain ridge in the Bavarian Prealps, dividing the Loisach and Isar valleys. Its name comes from Benediktbeuern Abbey, which has stood at its northern foot since the 8th century and shaped the cultural identity of the surrounding landscape. On clear days the summit ridge commands an unobstructed panorama stretching from the Chiemgau Alps to the Zugspitze. Ascents from Gaißach or Benediktbeuern take around three to four hours through mixed forest and open alpine meadows; in winter the ridge offers quiet snowshoe routes away from busier ski resorts.
