Château de Kagenfels

Château de Kagenfels is a ruined medieval castle tucked into the forested slopes of the northern Vosges near Ottrott, a small wine village west of Strasbourg. Only fragmentary walls survive today, half-absorbed by the surrounding woodland — the castle holds protected status in France's heritage register, though detailed records of its founding and ownership history remain scarce. Hikers on Vosges trails come across the moss-covered masonry with little warning, and higher sections of the remaining walls afford occasional open views across the Alsatian hillside. The site is best reached on foot, making it a quiet detour for anyone walking the ridge paths between Ottrott and the Champ du Feu.
