Columbarium (Cochem)

The Columbarium is a three-storey rubble-stone tower in Cochem, built in 1889 by the private citizen Carl Joseph Friedrichs (1831–1916). It is sometimes erroneously called the "Schwurhandturm" (oath-hand tower), though that name has no verified historical basis and its true origin remains unclear. Listed as a protected cultural monument, the compact structure is a modest example of late-19th-century civic building ambition in the Moselle region. No confirmed public access or documented original function is recorded.
