Grube 7 und ehemaliger Klärteich
The Grube 7 nature reserve occupies a former limestone quarry in the Gruiten district of Haan, at the edge of the Osterholz woodland on the border with Wuppertal. After industrial quarrying ceased, the site was left to natural succession and designated a protected area in 1997; since then, pioneer vegetation, wetland habitats around the former settling pond, and rich invertebrate and amphibian communities have taken hold. The reserve makes for a quiet walking destination offering an up-close look at the Bergisches Land's limestone geology and the gradual reclamation of an industrial landscape by nature.
