Kollhoff Tower

The Kollhoff-Tower is a 103-metre office building at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin's Tiergarten district, part of the quarter rebuilt in the 1990s. Hans Kollhoff completed it in 1999 as a deliberate homage to 1920s Chicago skyscrapers, with a dark red clinker facade, a stepped crown and vertical elements that narrow towards the top. On the roof sits the Panoramapunkt observation deck, reached by what is advertised as Europe's fastest elevator, lifting visitors to the top in 20 seconds. From there the view sweeps the Tiergarten, the Brandenburg Gate and the Sony Center. An exhibition recalls the history of the square before and after the fall of the Wall.
