Berlin Potsdamer Platz

Berlin Potsdamer Platz station is a split-level underground rail complex in central Berlin, its two halves separated by nearly seven decades of construction history. The S-Bahn section opened in 1939 as part of the city's pre-war North-South tunnel — a technically ambitious project that first threaded a rail connection beneath Berlin's dense urban core, and is today a listed monument. The regional rail hall is a product of reunified Germany, opening in 2006 as part of the tunnel linking Potsdamer Platz to the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof to the north. Together both sections form a core node of the so-called Pilzkonzept, Berlin's cross-city rail distribution scheme designed to minimize conflicting train paths. The entire station is step-free accessible.
