Bologna Gallery of Modern Art

MAMBo — Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna — opened in 2007 inside the former Forno del Pane, a municipal bread bakery constructed in the 1920s to supply the city's population. The industrial building, protected as an Italian national monument, was converted into gallery spaces while preserving the raw brick character of its original halls. The collection focuses on Italian and international contemporary art from the postwar period onward, and together with the adjacent Museo Morandi it forms the center of Bologna's contemporary art scene. The generous open floor plan accommodates large-scale installations that more conventional white-cube museums could not host.
