Cavaticcio Park sits in the western centre of Bologna, near the city's largely buried medieval canal network that once powered mills and workshops throughout the city. The name references the Cavaticcio, one of Bologna's historic canals, most of which were covered over during the twentieth century, leaving only scattered traces visible today. Protected as an Italian national monument, the site commemorates the economic role these waterways played in shaping the medieval city. In the present day it functions as a quiet neighbourhood green space, frequented primarily by local residents.
