Cardinal Lemoine
Interwar Period
Also known as: Medreseja
The Tirana Medrese, officially the Haxhi Mahmud Dashi Medrese, was founded on 1 March 1924 and is among the oldest educational institutions in Albania. Between the wars it trained Muslim clerics for the new state and helped consolidate a distinctly Albanian Islamic scholarly class. Closed in 1967 along with all religious institutions, it resumed teaching only after 1991. The current building from 1931 is a listed cultural monument and still houses the Albanian Muslim Community's instruction.
