Sankt Wolfgang

The parish branch church of St. Wolfgang in Thaining, a small village in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech, was built in 1449/50 as a votive and pilgrimage church. It is dedicated to Wolfgang of Regensburg, a 10th-century bishop widely venerated across the Alpine foothills whose name is attached to pilgrimage sites throughout Bavaria and Austria. The building is a protected architectural monument in Bavaria and sits at the eastern edge of a village green in the southern part of the settlement — a characteristic location for late-medieval votive chapels built just outside the main settlement core. For visitors interested in regional religious history, the church offers an unassuming and largely untouristed example of rural sacred architecture in the late Gothic tradition.
