Şeyh Cemil Konağı

The Şeyh Cemil Konağı is an Ottoman-era mansion located in the village of Akkapı, roughly 10 kilometres from central Adana, making it an off-the-beaten-path destination despite being within the city's metropolitan boundaries. It was the birthplace and residence of Cemil Nardalı, an Arab Alawite tribal leader who sided with the Turkish national movement during the War of Independence in the early 1920s — a significant example of cross-ethnic solidarity in a turbulent period. The mansion has since been converted into a free-entry museum that documents Adana's regional history leading up to and during that conflict. Two monumental trees anchor the garden, giving the property a calm, contemplative character. Guided tours are not always available, but the site can be explored independently.
