Misis Bridge

Misis Bridge is a Roman stone arch bridge spanning the Ceyhan River near the ancient city of Mopsuestia, about 27 kilometers east of Adana, Turkey. According to legend, the city was founded by Mopsus, a hero of the Trojan War, lending the site an almost mythological depth that archaeological finds in the surrounding area support. For centuries the bridge served as a critical Silk Road crossing for caravans moving between Anatolia and the Levant — a caravanserai nearby still recalls that era of long-distance trade. The bridge has been substantially restored and looks strikingly intact compared to most Roman ruins in the region, though its characteristic cut-stone arches remain true to the original form. Access is free; the ruins of a hilltop castle and the remnants of a mosaic museum are visible in the immediate vicinity.
