Tarihi Kalaycı

Tarihi Kalaycı is one of only two surviving tinning workshops in Adana's historic Kazancılar Bazaar, a district once filled with dozens of coppersmith and tinsmith masters. The craft — coating the interior of copper vessels with a thin layer of tin to make them food-safe — was a cornerstone of Ottoman and Anatolian domestic life for centuries, and is now on the verge of disappearing entirely. Visitors can watch the master work with open flame and hand tools, a rare live glimpse of a technique that rarely survives outside ethnographic museums. Those bringing their own copper pieces for re-tinning should confirm pricing in advance.
