Adana American College for Girls

The Adana American College for Girls was a Protestant missionary school that operated in southern Turkey's Adana from 1880 to 1927. Founded by American missionaries, it drew most of its students from the city's Armenian community — a population that was nearly entirely displaced through pogroms and the 1915 genocide. As the Armenian community vanished, so did the school's constituency, and it closed in 1927. The institution represents a lost chapter of Adana's once-multiethnic urban fabric, when American missionary networks established educational outposts across the late Ottoman Empire specifically aimed at minority communities.
