Crown Street railway station

Crown Street station opened in 1830 as Liverpool's first railway terminus and one of the earliest purpose-built passenger railway stations anywhere in the world. It served as the Liverpool end of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway — the first steam-powered intercity passenger line — but operated for only six years before being superseded by the larger Lime Street station in 1836. Little of the original structure survives today, but the site carries considerable weight as a founding moment of the railway age, predating virtually every other passenger terminus on earth.
