Biberkopf

At 2,599 metres, Biberkopf is the highest peak in the Oberallgäu district and sits precisely on the state border between Bavaria and the Austrian region of Vorarlberg. Named after the Biberalpe pasture below, the summit is built from weathered Dolomite limestone that gives the mountain its distinctively pale, rugged profile. The standard route ascends from Oberstdorf or the Kleinwalsertal valley and demands sure-footedness across exposed sections of rocky terrain. From the top, the view sweeps across the Allgäu and Vorarlberg Alps — on clear days extending to the Säntis massif and Lake Constance. There is no summit hut, keeping the peak quieter than many of its neighbours.
