Bretterspitze

The Bretterspitze is a 2608 m summit in the Hornbachkette range of the Allgäu Alps, situated in the Austrian state of Tyrol and most commonly approached from Sonthofen in Bavaria. Its broad upper structure is composed of Hauptdolomit — a pale-weathering limestone that gives the peak its distinctive open silhouette. The ascent crosses remote, lightly trafficked terrain and demands solid alpine experience: rope security is advisable on the upper section. From the top, the panorama sweeps across neighboring peaks including the Gliegerkarspitze to the west and the Urbeleskarspitze to the northeast. The long approach keeps visitor numbers low, making this one of the quieter high-alpine destinations in the Allgäu.
