Bliggspitze

The Bliggspitze, rising to 3,453 metres, is the second-highest peak of the Kaunergrat ridge in the Ötztal Alps, accessible from the Merano area. Its older name, Blickspitze — meaning 'viewpoint peak' — captures what the summit delivers: an expansive panorama across the Kauner Valley and its surrounding glacial landscape. The mountain is hemmed in by glaciers on every side: the Bliggferner to the west, the Hinterer and Mittlerer Eiskastenferner to the east and northeast, and the Vorderer Ölgrubenferner to the south — the latter being a hanging glacier that abuts the summit structure directly. Reaching the top is a proper high-alpine undertaking involving glacier travel, requiring crampons and rope, with no marked hiking trail to the top. For experienced alpinists, the reward is one of the most glacially immersive panoramas in the western Ötztal Alps.
