Castle Campbell

Castle Campbell — originally known by the forbidding name Castle Glume — sits on a rocky spur high above Dollar Glen in Clackmannanshire, flanked by two deeply carved ravines. From the late 15th century it served as the Lowland seat of the powerful Campbells of Argyll, and King James IV of Scotland is recorded to have visited on multiple occasions. The castle has been protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1950, and its designed landscape grounds were added to Scotland's Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in 2007. Visitors approach via a woodland trail through Dollar Glen, where waterfalls and steep wooded banks make the walk itself half the attraction before the tower house ruin comes into view against the Ochil Hills skyline.
