Fort San Lucian

Fort St Lucian — also called Fort de Rohan or St Lucian Tower — stands on a peninsula commanding the bay of Marsaxlokk on Malta's southern coast. Built between 1610 and 1611 under the Knights of St John, the original tower was designed to control this deep natural harbour, one of the island's most strategically significant anchorages. Under British colonial rule the structure was substantially expanded into a full bastion complex to meet the demands of 19th-century naval defence. The fort is listed in Malta's National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands. Its peninsula setting affords broad views across the bay, today best known for the colourful luzzu fishing boats moored along its shores.
