Also known as: Belvedere Tower
The Lija Belvedere Tower is a small 19th-century folly in the village of Lija, Malta, originally built as a decorative viewing tower within a private garden. Follies of this type were fashionable among the Victorian-era gentry, designed not for utility but to lend a picturesque, romantic character to estate grounds — a trend that reached Malta through British colonial influence. The tower now sits at the center of a traffic roundabout, gated and locked to the public. Visitors can appreciate its ornate stonework from the pavement and typically combine the stop with a visit to the nearby Lija parish church a short walk away.
