Keramik-Museum Berlin

The Keramik-Museum Berlin is one of the city's smallest and quietest specialist museums - housed in a baroque townhouse at Schustehrusstrasse 13 in the heart of Charlottenburg's old town. Berlin collector Heinz-Dieter Bilz founded it in 1990 from his private holdings; since 2004 it has occupied this listed building right next to the Luisenkirche. Special exhibitions feature design classics and notable 20th and 21st-century ceramicists, from Hedwig Bollhagen to contemporary studio potters. The rooms are so narrow that barely twenty visitors fit at once, which reinforces the living-room museum character. It opens only Friday through Monday afternoons; anyone wandering down old Schustehrusstrasse discovers a Berlin island far off the tourist trails.
