Palác Uhorskej eskontnej a zmenárenskej banky

The Palace of the Hungarian Discount and Exchange Bank is a Jugendstil landmark in central Bratislava, completed in 1911 during the final flourishing of Habsburg financial architecture. At the time, Bratislava — then known as Pressburg — was the second-largest city in the Hungarian half of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and grand bank buildings like this one were deliberate statements of economic confidence. The facade is decorated with characteristic Jugendstil motifs: curvilinear ornaments, floral reliefs, and an elegantly composed street frontage that distinguishes it from the more austere neoclassical buildings nearby. Today it is a listed heritage monument, and its exterior offers one of the more concentrated examples of early 20th-century decorative architecture in the Slovak capital.
