The Limestone Heritage Park and Gardens
Also known as: The Limestone Heritage Park & Gardens
Limestone Heritage Park, located in the traditional village of Siggiewi, occupies a former quarry and traces the central role of Malta's golden limestone in shaping the island's built environment — from prehistoric temples to the baroque facades of Valletta. Nearly every historic structure on the island was carved from the same soft globigerina limestone extracted from sites exactly like this one. A well-produced audio tour with synchronized sound effects guides visitors past original quarrying machinery and live stone-cutting demonstrations, making the history concrete rather than abstract. Families appreciate the adjacent animal area with donkeys, goats, and chickens, while the on-site restaurant il-kċina serves Maltese food. Open Monday to Friday until 16:00, Saturday until 12:00; entrance fee applies.
